Roulette is a fairly simple game once you get the hang of it, but for beginners the payout structure is often quite scary. I have tried to simplify the roulette payout structure below:
Single number bets:
A bet on a single number (also known as a straight up or inside bet) has odds of 35/1 ( thirty-five to one ), so if the player wins on any single number bet their winnings will be 35 times their original bet plus they get the original bet back aswell. So for a winning $1 bet on any single number the player would receive $35 winnings plus the original stake of $1, totaling $36.
Eg; a straight up bet on the number 17.
Even money bets:
Even money bets give 50/50 odds or in other words a winning even money bet would generate a profit equal to your original stake. When you place an even money bet you are betting on either 1 of 2 possible senarios.
There are 3 kinds of even money bets available at the european roulette table; Red / Black, Odd / Even, 1-18 / 19-36. A winning $1 bet on any of these would give you a profit of $1 and a total return of $2.
Eg; a $1 bet on red.
Three way bets:
A winning three way bet would produce a profit of 2 times your original stake and a total return of 3 times your original stake.
There are two kinds of three way bets; Dozens, or Columns.
The dozens are split as follows 1-12, 13-24, 25-36. For example if you place a bet on the second dozen (13-24) and the ball lands on number 17 then you're a winner because the spun number was located within the chosen range.
Eg: a bet on the 2nd dozen ( 13-24 ).
Columns are also split into three groups but they are non sequential groups and not ranges, the table is split into visual columns as follows; 1st column (1-34), 2nd column (2-35), 3rd column (3-36). If the spun number is located within your chosen column then you're a winner.
Eg; a $1 bet on the 3rd column ( 3-36 ).
Other bets:
There are many other bets available, too many to easily explain in-fact. You can figure the rest out yourself, because the best way to learn is by playing.
The above was a beginners guide to roulette betting and odds, I hope it helps you learn the game of roulette.
